Basionym: Bryopsis pennatula J. Agardh, 1847: 6. Type locality: San Agustín, Oaxaca, Mexico. Note: Bryopsis pennatula was cited in the protologue of B. pennata var. minor so that the two names have the same type (Silva et al. 1996: 807).
