The Galapagos Species Database shares the information about the species from our Natural History Collections.
Avibirnavirus Infectious bursal disease virus
Infectious bursal disease virus
Three separate studies have found a seroprevalence to antibodies for IBD in chickens on Santa Cruz 40-81%, San Cristóbal (40%) and Floreana (70%). This virus has been found in wild bird species in other geographic regions of the world (penguins in Antartica) and should be monitored in both chickens and wild birds in Galapagos. There is also an extremely pathogenic strain of IBD on the mainland of South America and should be kept from entering Galapagos.
