Type locality: Near northern limit of Bahía San Francisco, Esmeraldas, Ecuador (Dawson 1953: 63). Holotype: Taylor,34-489; Feb. 11, 1934; At a depth of 5.4 meters with corallinae. HAHF Sheet 160 (Dawson 1953: 63). Notes: Type (cystocarpic and tetrasporic) dredged in 5.4 m of water with corallinae near the northeastern side of Ba. San Francisco (Taylor, 1945).

Costa Rica: Golfo Dulce; Ecuador: Esmeraldas, northeastern side of Ba. San Francisco, Guayas, Pta. Santa Elena (Taylor, 1945). America: Gulf of California, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Ecuador, Galapagos I. (Guiry & Guiry, 2021).
