F. Bungartz: Specimens identified as this unnamed species of Cyphellostereum were included in the review of Galapagos basidiolichens by Yánez_Ayabaca et al. (2012). In the microscope all specimens examined show fungal hyphae loosely associated with Scytonema-like photobionts (Rhizonema?). Unfortunately, all attempts to extract and amplify fungal DNA from these specimens by M. Dal-Forno failed . It therefore remains doubtful if these specimens indeed represent lichenized basidiomycetes.
