Galapagos Species Database
The Galapagos Species Database shares the information about the species from our Natural History Collections.
Scheloribates elegans
Arácnidos, Arachnids
Environment: Marine and terrestrial (Horton et al., 2021).
Scheloribates: in Gal´apagos 12 species of this genus were recorded, seven of them known species. The most common oribatid species in Gal´apagos, S. praeincisus, is dominant in all vegetations zones on most of the islands, but prefers the moist zones. It shows close relationships to Pacific subspecies (Hammer, 1971). Scheloribates elegans and Scheloribates striatus are each represented by different, morphologically well-defined forms on different islands or habitats (Schatz, 1998).
