Syn.: Favartia (Favartia) vittata (Broderip, 1833), Murex lepidus Reeve, 1845, Murex vittatus Broderip, 1833, Murexiella vittata (Broderip, 1833) (Horton et al., 2021).;(Murexiella v.) Finet (2001): This species is mentioned from the Galapagos in Keen (1971), an occurrence also questioned by von Cosel (1984: 222). Many specimens from the Galapagos are identified as M. vittata in the collections of the AMNH, of the ANSP, and of the LACM. But they all seem referable to Murexiella venustula Poorman, 1983 [currently synonymised with Murexiella exigua (Broderip, 1833)], which has also been collected by other expeditions in the Galapagos. Whether the true Murexiella vittata really occurs in the Galapagos becomes doubtful (see also Finet, 1985 & 1994), although Kaiser (1997: 35) mentions again Murexiella vittata from the Galapagos on the basis of material in the Los Angeles County Museum (LACM 11332, 11340, 34-25, 34-189).
