Syn.: Cantharus (Gemophos) sanguinolentus (Keen, 1971), Columbella aphthaegera Lesson, 1842, Pollia haemastoma Gray, 1839, Purpura sanguinolenta Duclos, 1833 (Horton et al., 2021). Cantharus (Gemophos) is unaccepted and the accepted aame is Gemophos Olsson & Harbison, 1953 (Horton et al., 2021).

Distribution: (Cantharus (Gemophos) sanguinolentus) Lower California, south to Panama, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (Hickman & Finet, 1999).
