It is a large plant with an erect growth habit (with a sufrutescent stem base) leaves petiolate with blade ovate more or less biserrate, heads numerous closely crowded forming depressed-speherical masses.

Taxon category: Accepted
Syn.: Desmocephalum inelegans Hook.f., Elvira inelegans fide Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew & Missouri Botanical Garden (2010). The specimens make it clear that it is nothing like D. repens (nor biflora) and is a distinct species.
