Syn.: Bostrichus uncinatus C. Waterhouse, 1877, Amphicerus punctipennis Linell (not LeConte), 1898, Schistoceros obscurus, Amphicerus cornutus (Pallas, 1772), fide Peck (2006). As earlier authors treated it, this species may yet prove to be a synonym or an island subspecies of Amphicerus cornutus (Pallas) which is widespread in lowland subtropical and tropical America, including the Pacific Tres Marias islands of Mexico.
