Galapagos Species Database

The Galapagos Species Database shares the information about the species from our Natural History Collections.

Liohippelates galapagensis (Curran, 1932)

mosca, fly

Collected from littoral to agricultural zone on several islands, and has been reared from decaying vegetation. Specimens identified by Johnson (1924) as "L. puso" may also be this species, but the material upon which this was based has not been examined (Wheeler & Forrest 2003). Johnson (1924) also reported that flies of this species were attracted to small abrasions of the skin.
