Head blunt with large lips and unbranched cirri above eyes. Fine blue spots on upper head: yellow spots on throat. Olive to brown body: row of large white spots down back and another along midbody. At least 51.8 cm

Habitat: Shallow inshore waters over rocky substrata between 2 and 5 m.

Taxon category: Accepted

Syn.: Acanthemblemaria (Metzelaar, 1919), fide Appeltans et al. (2010) Holotype: USNM 198257, male, 51.7 mm SL, from Barrington Is., Galapagos Archipelago, collected by B.W. Walker and E.S. Hobson, 17 Feb 1964, formerly UCLA [WJ64-27 [ace. no. 257404]. Remarks: In the material examined section of the original description, the holotype is indicated erroneously as "formerly UCLA [W]54-27.", Paratype: USNM 198258 (11) [10], same collection data as holotype [ace. no. 257404]. Remarks: Formerly UCLA [W]64-27. The original description lists 11 paratypes in USNM 198258, but the USNM ledger entry lists only 10, and only 10 specimens are in the jar. The location of the 11th specimen is unknown and may not have been received at USNM (Springer & Orrell, 1996).
