Accord. to Nesbitt & Pitt (1986) this new species, although being very similar to Nassarius nodicinctus, is actually a distinct species, probably endemic to the Galapagos Islands; all previous records of N. nodicinctus A. Adams (auct.) from the Galapagos may thus refer to N. caelolineatus, and the true N. nodicinctus probably does not occur in the Galapagos; LACM: 2173 (Paratypes), CAS: 58038 (Holotype), 58039 (Paratypes), BMNH: 1986087 (Paratypes), other paratypes in AMNH, ANSP, CDRS, LACM, MCZ, UCMP, USNM, MHNG: 993-154, 993-155, 993-165, 993-185, CDRS: 476, 478, 882, 995, 1194, 1390, FNRS-Belgian expedition to the Galapagos, 1984, MHNG expedition to the Galapagos, 1993
